Compact Refrigerators

Is our mini-fridge okay to have in a cabinet?

We just bought a mini-fridge to put in a bottom cabinet in our bar. The manual says it is meant to be free-standing and not be recessed or placed in something. Is it really a hazzard or will it be fine? There is about 3 inches behind the fridge and about 4 inches on either side.

  1. you must cut a cutout in the back of cabinet for proper cooling
  2. It will most likely overheat. The backs have to be open to the air to help keep the motor cool. It could cause a fire. I wouldn't chance it.
  3. Your mini-fridge needs ventilation, and can't keep it closed up in a cabinet, it will over heat.
  4. shouldnt be a problem. as long as there are little cracks around the door to allow minimum air curculation. the motor does not get hot enough to start a fire. i put mine in a small cabinet. only problem was it could not produce ice
  5. If there is adequate room at the sides and back of the fridge, I would not worry. If it is a tight fit, you might consider cutting a hole in the cabinet for ventilation. I don't think there would be a danger, the heat would beuild up and make the unit run longer.
