Compact Refrigerators

Is it safe to lay a compact refrigerator on its side or back when moving it?

I am a moving in to my dorm in about 5 days and i have a 3.1 cubic feet compact refrigerator. My dad is planning to move all my stuff in a truck that has a covering over the truck bed ( one that cant be adjusted i.e the truck bed covers that come with mini windows on the sides) however the compact fridge is about 3 inches too tall for the truck bed. So i was wondering is it safe to lay the compact fridge on its side or back for the duration of the trip (5 hours) since thats the only way i can get it to fit into the truck This is the web address to the model & fridge type i bought (yes from lowes since it was only one i could find with a seperate freezer and refrigerator compartment) http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=235878-47224-FRTC03L5DB&lpage=none Thank you

  1. you can but it has to sit for 24hrs upright refore you plug in back in...
  2. I do not think you will have a problem. You mite want to stand it upright for an hour or 2 after you move it be for tuning it back on.
  3. you should never lay a unit on it's side or back no matter if 3.1 or 25 cu.ft. if the oil gets in the compressor it is ruint.
  4. SORRY TO SAY ,WE DID LAY OURS DOWN AND IT WOULD NOT WORK AGAIN --- 5 HOURS IS TO LONG, THINK ABOUT THE ROAD SHAKING EVERYTHING UP.
