Compact Refrigerators

What is the best way to defrost a small freezer in a bar fridge?

The door doesn't close properly because there is ice around the door frame....which has lead to lots of ice depositing inside the freezer. What is the fix? Thanks!

  1. you'll need: loads of old towels. A bucket or large empty plastic container (watertight). A pan full of hot water. a plastic or nylon scraper. Firstly, TURN IT OFF. Secondly, take it outside or into the bathroom if you can. Otherwise, put some old towels down around it because it's going to get messy. An old towel or large drip pan like for cooking Thanksgiving Bird in the bottom of the fridge part is good for catching the melting ice. If you can't get anything into the actual freezer, then just try chipping away at the ice carefully with a PLASTIC or NYLON scraper, or an egg turner. Once you can get something into the freezer, a fry-pan or two of HOT water in there will help melt the other ice. Wait 5-10 minutes for things to start to defrost. Keep chipping away at the ice, carefully. Once the ice has started to melt a bit you will be able to lever large chunks of it away from the sides of the freezer (put the chunks into the big bucket. Keep changing the water in the fry-pan so it stays HOT, the steam from this is helping melt the ice while you remove the chunks. This whole operation should not take longer than half an hour. When finished, wipe the freezer and fridge out with a dry towel. If it's smelly you can spray it with a bit of vanilla spray, or wipe it out with vanilla essence on a paper towel. In future, remember that the minute you start to get more than 1/4 inch of ice in that sucker, it's time to DEFROST with a pan of hot water and a scraper. If you do it more frequently it's faster and easier and you don't end up with a door that doesn't shut! Cheers!
  2. the fix is a new freezer or else regular defrosting what works good is one of them steam cleaners hand held that will break up the ice fast and not alot of water to clean up just ice. regular defrosting will help greatly
  3. A quick method is to use a hair dryer. Also use a large sponge and set it in the botom to soak up water. Then squeeze into a nearby bucket, etc. good luck
  4. Unplug fridge..Lay a bunch of newsapapers at bottom front of fridge on floor, open the door to fridge & freezer, get a floor fan & turn it on the freezer section & also use a hand held hair dryer at hottest temp, blow air from both devices & it'll start melting like crazy. You either need a new door seal or a new fridge for the bar.
  5. unplug frig, boil a pan of water that will fit in it and put it in and close the door.you may have to repeat the process once or twice
