How much time should I leave to defrost my small fridge and freezer?

I'm at college and my dad is coming to pick me up tomorrow around noon, and my parents said I need to defrost my fridge first. I don't want to start till I have to because my roommate still has food in there. It is a fridge and freezer, but the freezer is on top not in the fridge with separate sections and doors. Anyone know? thanks!

1. If your room mate has food in there then tell them to do it when they take there stuff out.
