Compact refrigerators: which one is quiet and energy efficient? We want to put a compact refrigerator/freezer in a home theater room that is detached from the main house? We don't want a noisy motor runnng all the time. Does anyone know which model runs quietly?

What is a good brand for compact refrigerators? I am shopping for a compact refrigerator that is smaller than five cubic feet. I've searched around and it seems that Haier is a popular brand. However, to be sure, I just wanted to see if there were other better brands beside Haier. By good brand I mean quiet, consistent cold temperature, not hot on the outside, and energy efficient.

Are extended warranties on compact refrigerators worth the price? I seem to have had a lot of problems with all sizes of refrigerators over the years, even though I'm careful to keep them clean and defrosted regularly, etc.. In the small place I now live, in three years I've had two used compact fridges stop working; this time I decided to buy a new one, just so I have a warranty for the next time something goes wrong. I have the option of buying an extended warranty of up to 5 years. Since it's usually the compressor that goes and more expensive to buy the compressor than buy a new fridge, seems to me it's worth buying that extended warranty. Feedback, anyone??? Thanks.

Compact Refrigerator Heating Up On Sides, is that Normal? We currently bought a GE 2 Door Compact Refrigerator at Wal-Mart for $124.00 and after setting it up and plugging it in, we noticed that the left and right side of this appliance was heating up. New Haier compact refrigerator not cooling? We just bought a Haier compact refrigerator last night - I think its HNSE05 - from the store to the house we did not tip it on its side or anything, but kept it upright as it says on the box. Getting it inside, the only way we could get it out of the box, was to tear the box apart. So we dont have the box. We plugged it in about 9pm or so last night, and its been plugged in for about 20 hours now. It does not feel like its getting cooler at all, regardless of the setting. Just a teensy bit cold to notice a difference, but definitely not cold enough to keep our milk or butter from spoiling. Ive read things online that gave me the impression that when you first get a refrigerator, you have to give it time to initially cool - but nowhere do I see just how long this would take. 24 hours? 48? 72? I mean, am I being premature in asking if a 4.6 cubic ft compact fridge should be cold by now? Its important because our old fridge died and the new one is not coming for another week, and we have no way to get groceries for the week without this little one. Oh yeah, and I did contact Haier, but you know it can take them up to 2 days to respond...

The yellow energy-guide tag on it says yearly operating cost of $35, based on 325kWh on a national average of $0.1065 cents/kWh (2007). Well its thermostat ranges from 0-7 (book says 5). Well it was set on 3 and I left it there for a couple of days. Went shopping put simple stuff in and a pint of ice cream. Ice cream kinda melted. So I put the ice cream in my big freezer and turned this one up to 7 (highest setting). My question now is, is the yellow energy paper that was taped to the fridge rated for the lowest, highest, or in between settings? My local power company chargers $0.0393 cents/kWh, a lot lower than the national average in 2007.

Trouble-shooting a portable compact refrigerator that won't get cold enough? My compact portable outdoor refrigerator turns on (I can hear it when plugged in), gets mildly cool, but doesn't reach anywhere near the temperature is should be reaching (even on the coldest setting). Last summer the refrigerator worked like a charm (drinks were iced after a few hours). It's an outdoor refrigerator, therefore I left it outdoors over the freezing winter in NJ (maybe my mistake). When I switched it on again this year (after about 8 months), it is "behaving" in the manner that I described above. I am (obviously) out of warranty and the manufacturer doesn't want to help me repair it. compact fridge issues? i have a haier compact refrigerator and its really never seemed to work right. ive known people who have similar ones and even the exact ssame thing and theres seems to get colder. it has a freezer inside the frindge at the top. everyone elses gets tons of frost and my owners maual sais mine would do that but it doesnt it just drips water everywhere. ive adjusted the settings and cant get it to work right. whats my problem?

How do I install a compact refrigerator's access valve? I have a office size mini refrigerator ( Haier HNSB02 1.7 Cu Ft) which slowly stopped freezing. My guess is that it lost the refrigerant agent as is it may have a leak in the end-line crimp. This model does not have a refrigerant access valve as it is crimped and soldered to close the system. I already bought the access valve and I have access to a refrigerator vacuum pump. Can any one tell me how I can fix this. I will need to cut and solder the valve. Help Please with a Haier mini fridge freezer door spring.? Hello, I have one of those compact/mini refrigerators~made by Haier~and somehow I hit the little freezer door and knocked the spring off that keeps the freezer door shut tight. Does anybody know how that crazy little spring re-attaches?? I've tried every way I can see that it might work, but it just won't stay there. There is a small hole on the freezer itself, and another on the door-in front of the pin that holds the door on...but it just doesn't seem to go in those?? The "spring" has two different wires, coming out of both ends of the twist of wire and both have a slight hook to the ends of them. If anybody has one of these, I would sure appreciate it if you could try to describe to me how it goes back on:) The freezer keeps dripping since it is defrosting because the door won't stay closed tight~ Thank VERY Much!!!

Food storage containers with lock? To make a long story short, there is someone in my household that I do not trust. I would like to find some kind of food storage containers that I could place in my refrigerator that is lockable. Does this exist? If so, can somebody point me to some products I could check. ** Paying duty/taxes at Canadian border We will be taking a refrigerator made in the USA up to our vacation trailer in Canada. We are USA residents and have a vacation home up there. The old built in 'fridge that was original equipment in our trailer finally died so this would be a replacement. Can anyone tell me about how much in taxes/duty we will pay to do this? Or maybe someone can suggest a website where I can find this infomation? I haven't had any luck yet finding the answer to this question and I just spoke with the Canadian Consulate office in Philadelphia who didn't seem to have a clear idea where to get this information, either... We priced refrigerators in the local Canadian stores on our last trip in July and were astonished to see how much they want for a 4.4 cubic foot compact refrigerator. Can 14-2 be used to run outlets? I am putting in a few outlets in my basement for a new bar. I bought 14-2 because we are running several new lights as well. Can I use the 14-2 to run the outlets as well? The heaviest thing on them will be a compact refrigerator or "bar fridge". I may also run the occasional blender. Do I need to use 12 gauge?
